Morrissey ‘Kill Uncle’ re issue – in depth review and think piece
Morrissey is set to re-issue his 1991 album 'Kill Uncle' alongside a special edition 7” single picture disc.
A year dominated by shoegaze, baggy and the nascent grunge scene, 1991 was a strange period for Morrissey. Parting company with long term producer and creative partner Stephen Street, the musicians who helped craft the singer's debut solo record 'Viva Hate' fragmented.
Gathering a new group of musicians around him, Morrissey experimented with a different style of songwriting. Influenced by torch songs, 'Kill Uncle' split critical opinion on its release and remains a strange, somewhat difficult instalment in Morrissey's career.
A new re-issue will hopefully shed some light on the recordings. 'Kill Uncle' will be released on April 8th, backed with a special edition 7” single picture disc featuring 'The Last Of The Famous International Playboys'.
Alongside this, the seven inch features ‘People Are The Same everywhere (BBC live version)’, ‘Action Is My Middle Name (BBC live version)’ and ‘The Kid’s A Looker (BBC live version)’, all of which were recorded exclusively for Janice Long Show on Radio 2 back in June 2011.
Something for the fans: the new version of 'Kill Uncle' features a re-ordered tracklisting, adding ‘Pashernate Love’ and ‘East West’ (a Herman’s Hermits cover) as well the ‘live in studio’ version of ‘There’s a Place In Hell For Me and My Friends’. 'Kill Uncle' will be re-issued on April 8th.
